Abstract

This article aims to analyze the school spaces and implements proposed by António Feliciano de Castilho to be adopted in Portuguese and Brazilian schools. For that, we use as source the works written by the author. We describe, in principle, the theoretical foundations that guide the understanding of the theme of school material culture and, then, we describe biographical aspects and the circulation of its method in the country of origin and in Brazil. Finally, we analyze the spaces and artifacts to be adopted in schools for the application of their proposal for initial teaching of reading, writing and speaking well in a quick and pleasant way. We concluded that the objects constituted necessary requirements for the application and effectiveness of the method.
