Abstract

This article presents an analysis of aspects of the 37th edition of Cartilha Maravilhosa – aprendizagem da leitura através dos contos de fadas, by Theobaldo Miranda Santos, published in 1965 by Livraria Agir Editora. As the title and subtitle show, this booklet uses fairy tales to alphabetize children, which can be considered a great innovation in its time in relation to the other texts used to writing and reading teaching, which even anticipate later claims about this aspect in booklets. However, the used method and the reading, writing and grammar conceptions follow the alphabetizing historical movement inside a catholic nationalist project which literary texts were used for teaching how form good citizens.
